How much will I make?
You’ll earn at least the current federal minimum hourly wage. You could earn a higher wage, depending on the type of work you do and the skills required. Your total Federal Work-Study (FWS) award was determined by several factors: when you applied, your expected family contribution (EFC), and our funding level. Commissions or fees cannot be paid to FWS students.
How frequently will I be paid?
As an FWS employee, you will be paid semimonthly: on the 15th day and the last day of the month. If a payday falls on a weekend or holiday, checks will be issued on the prior weekday.
Can FWS earnings be credited to my account?
No. Students are paid directly for hours worked. You may make arrangements with the bursar, however, to make payments to your account with funds derived from your FWS earnings.
Can I find work off campus?
No. At this time, Walden University cannot sign off-campus contracts.
How many hours per week can I work?
Per university policy, you may work no more than 20 hours per week as an FWS student.
Can my FWS award increase or decrease?
Yes. Occasionally, the Office of Financial Aid will need to revise the amount of your work-study award, based on changes in your financial circumstances or your receipt of additional financial resources, such as outside scholarships. When your FWS award changes, the revised award must be signed and returned to the Office of Financial Aid, indicating all changes made to the award.
Will my FWS hours be monitored?
Yes. Because FWS is a needs-based award made to individual students, the amount of the FWS funds that are actually earned must be monitored against the awards. The responsibility for monitoring these earnings must be clearly delineated so that the FWS program is not charged for more than you are eligible to receive and you do not exhaust your award amount.
